Searchclick8.com Defeated
I had recently found my computer infected with a virus and part of that virus contained a redirect when I went to Google. By that I simply mean that I would go to Google and enter something to search for, but when the results came up and I clicked on them I found myself redirected to advertisements.
Looking at the link that Google was sending me to I noticed that all of the links contained: searchclick8.com
After countless research and people telling me to post log files I came across the very simple solution.
The virus changed my DNS settings and was redirecting me to a server that was controlling my internet connection. Here is the very simple fix (based off of an XP computer, but the end result will be the same).
- Go to the Control panel.
- Go to Network Connections.
- Right click on “Local Area Connection” and select properties.
- Scroll down in the center area and select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on the properties button.
- Look for “Obtain DNS server address automatically” and make sure that is selected. I am aware that some users do have specific DNS servers and/or IP addresses so be sure to verify this with your IT/computer specialist.
- That should solve the redirect issue.
For reference, the IP addresses my system had follows:
193.104.110.38 and 4.2.2.1

Dude, thank you so much, I was working on this all morning with java deletes and such. Nothing worked, but this did! Thank you!!!!!
Thanks, it worked like a charm!
Finally! i was looking into new virus hunters and just wiping my drive completely to get rid of this thing. now it makes sense as to why it was so hard to kill. it’s not really there at all. he moved in, changed your settings, and moved out. then it had control over your internet traffic. thanks alot
Great Job Man! Thanks a lot! In my case it was not just google but also yahoo and bing I was having trouble with.
It seems that this is floating around this week. I’ve checked google, and most “Searchclick8″ results were updated within the last week. Thanks for sharing this, it worked. Now – time to find a way to get rid of this ‘Vundo.Trojan.’ Both Spyware Doctor and Vundo Remover programs can’t get rid of it, along with my default antivirus, BitDefender. Again, thanks. Now I can use search engines again.
You are my savior man. Weeks of this crap, all fixed by this simple solution. You make the world a better place.
Genius in it’s simplicity. I knew it was something that easy, I just couldn’t think of where to go. You rock dude, saved me hours of trying to send logs and following the complicated and circuitous directions from other websites.
THANK YOU.
Now I just have to figure out WHY I keep getting these viruses.
